One event I look forward to every summer is the Civil War Re-enactment in Wauconda,IL. Not only because of the history lessons given by those participating, but the photo opportunities that present themselves. Portraits, battles scenes, random folks dressed up as if it were the 1800’s. It’s definitely a step back in time. I have been looking forward to this year’s reenactment, however it was cancelled. I wasn’t aware of it being cancelled until I made the drive the day of. Of course I was bummed out but I knew I wanted to make something out of nothing since I already had my cameras with me.
Bloods Point Cemetery….a place full of stories and is known as one of the most haunted places in Northern Illinois. It’s not an easy place to find, but I found it. I had my Nikon F100 (with the Nikon 28mm, 50mm, and 85mm lenses)and my Widelux F6. I kept it simple and just went with the F100 and 85mm 1.8G.
The cemetery is small and out in the middle of nowhere. There are stories attached to the cemetery that you can find online with a quick Google search. Fascinating if you ask me. So I walked around, shot a roll of Kentmere 100, and called it a day. On one hand I missed out on the Civil War reenactment I love going to, but on the other hand I got to see Bloods Point Cemetery. I can take it off my to see list now.
As far as development, I kept it simple. I stuck with the Xtol-R and I was very pleased with the results. Little to no adjustments in LR and to me, that’s a success. I managed to turn a nothing day into a something day. I call it a win.
