Some of you may have already shot a roll or two of Cinestill’s BWXX 120. Me? I’ve shot two rolls and developed them in different developers. Why? Well, it’s easy. I wanted to see how the D96 would work and I wanted to see how the Diafine would work. I did use my Mamiya C330 for both rolls.
Diafine is the unicorn developer. It’s extremely hard to find, if found it’s like hitting the jackpot. It’s used for pushing film. So for the XX, it is recommended to shoot it at 640. Something I’ve never tried before so I said screw it, it was time. 3 min for Developer A and 3 min for developer B. Boom, negatives looked great and they were ready to scan.
One problem though….I couldn’t find my negatives for a few days. It had me somewhat stressed out. Eventually, I found the negatives and scanned them with my Epson V700. First impressions….I’m blown away. Most of the photos didn’t need any adjustments. Everything was spot on. Contrast, tonal range, minimal grain, all there to my liking. Will I be using Diafine again with the XX? That’s a hell yes.
