The great thing about photography is that there are so many things to capture. Old cars, gas stations, portraits, abandoned buildings, and so on. All that good stuff. There is also the world of macro. A world I’ve been curious about but really never dedicated time to it. There are many photographers out there who do great work behind the lens and I can see how they’re an inspiration to some.
I have the camera, I have the lens, I have film so why not give it a shot at macro? Well, today was the day. I decided to go with HP5, no rhyme or reason but I did know I wanted to shoot it at ISO 800. To me, that’s where HP5 shines. So for the first time, I went out for a walk and dedicated an entire roll of film to macro photography. Due to the weather, I just walked around my neighborhood in case it started to rain. I found myself shooting differently as I had to get real close and I found myself getting in shooting positions I’m not used to. It all worked out just fine.
None of the photos I captured are great in anyway, but for me, it was an eye opener to what we are missing if we don’t look closely. I do have a few favorites from the roll I shot. I enjoyed the experience for sure and I definitely can see myself shooting more macro. Now I don’t believe it’s something I can do everyday, but it certainly has its place. To those of you who are into this type of photography, it definitely takes skill. For those of you who haven’t given macro a try, you should.
