I’ve shot enough of the XX film to love it but not enough to know how to get the most from it, if that makes any sense. Lighting conditions, developers, developing methods, etc all play a role in the outcome of any film. One thing I’ve been wanting to try for some time now is to give XX @640/Diafine a try. This afternoon, the opportunity came.
The weather was a green light to go for a walk with my Nikon F100. I decided to stick with the 50mm 1.8G lens only, I wasn’t in the mood to carry any unnecessary gear. The F100 was set at 640 and I was ready to shoot.
I’ve walked around this neighborhood before so I kept in mind not to “repeat” what I’ve captured before. I enjoyed it. It can be challenging to look for new things to take photos of but that’s what makes it fun right? I even tried a double exposure with the F100, something I need to explore more.
Shooting the XX @640 I had a developer in mind. Diafine. 3 min for Dev A and 3 min for Dev B. Boom. Done. Everything went smooth and the negatives looked promising. After all said and done, I am pleased with the results. The tonality range is solid and the grain is pleasing to the eye. It’s not overwhelming. Will I shoot XX @640 again? Absolutely. I can see myself doing this in the Widelux. So what is something you’ve been wanting to explore in the world of film photography?
